One on One with Andreas Dahlbäck
With a storied career spanning back to 1988 – when he started his rapid rise to becoming one of Sweden’s most respected and in-demand drummers – Dahlbäck has decades of experience with crafting sonic excellence.
While he was known primarily for his exceptional percussion skills at the time, Dahlbäck co-founded Durango Recording studio in 1999 and set about diversifying his work into music production. By 2002, he was noticed by the CEO of Virgin (2) record label, who asked him if he’d like to work with up-and-coming band Eskobar. Together with featuring artist Heather Nova, Dahlbäck and Eskobar put together a strong international hit in ‘Someone New’, which charted high across Europe and broke into the US market through MTV. Dahlbäck’s reputation further blossomed when he produced Anna Ternheim's platinum-selling debut album ‘Somebody Outside’ in 2004, which won a handful of prestigious awards.
Since proving himself in the mix room in the early ‘00s, Dahlbäck has produced over 50 albums and a selection of singles and EPs, while performing on over 250 albums during his entire career. His collaborations with big-name artists include songs with Roxette, Per Gessle, Eagle-Eye Cherry and Julian Lennon. Dahlbäck is also an artist in his own right, with a stream of well-received singles and EPs having been released since 2021.
To power his work, Dahlbäck relies on the truthful and adaptable audio reproduction of our 8351 ‘The Ones’ coaxial Smart Active Monitors complemented by our W371 Adaptive Woofer Systems, which are optimised by Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) calibration software.
In our exclusive One on One interview video, Dahlbäck explains “I love gear, but I don’t love building walls that are expensive, with special material, to make the EQ curve flat. That’s not my cup of tea. If I’m leaving this building, I’m not going to be able to take the expensive wall I just built. But I can move these ‘Ones’, and I can move to another facility, and I’ll have a straight curve again.”
